Mike Koenigs

Mike Koenigs, pronounced “kay-nigs,” is the creator of Traffic Geyser, a Web 2.0 syndication service that simplifies the distribution of marketing content and a coaching course called Main Street Marketing Machines 2. Koenigs became interested in computers at an early age and has been involved in Internet marketing since 1991. He has played many different roles over the years — marketer, video producer, speaker, and trainer, to name a few — and one of the most versatile, legitimate Internet marketing gurus around. I had the the chance to hang with Mike and some other cool folks for a few days in September 2009 as we drove exotic cars up the California coast. Surprisingly, only one of us got a ticket.

A self-proclaimed geek, Koenigs taught himself how to program when he was 14. Born in the early 1970s, Koenigs grew up in the small hometown of Eagle Lake, Minnesota. He graduated from high school in 1984 and went on to program video games for Mac before co-founding his own company, Digital Café, in 1991. Digital Café was one of the first ever interactive multimedia companies, producing the first branded CD-ROM computer game, Chex Quest. Digital Café also produced movie websites and promotional screensavers for corporations such as Sony, 20th Century Fox and Columbia-Tristar. Digital Café was Koenigs main enterprise until he sold it in 1999 to Campbell-Mithun.

Koenigs created Traffic Geyser in the mid-2000s. Marketers use the program to spread their sales content to all kinds of popular websites with the simple click of a button. Built to help Internet marketers achieve top search engine rankings, Traffic Geyser submits the specified content to over 100 sites including content sharing sites, social networking sites, and search engines. The program distributes all types of content but has tools and content distribution developed specifically for video content.

Designed to be accessible for marketers of all computer, Internet and marketing skill levels, Traffic Geyser distributes marketing content but also includes many other tools to help launch successful marketing campaigns. These tools generate automatic responses to customer inquiries and assist marketers in setting up websites and blogs for sales campaigns. Created less than five years ago, Traffic Geyser distributes more than a million videos every single week for its tens of thousands of global customers.

Koenigs is a popular speaker at conferences, often speaking to groups of over 1,000. His keynotes often center on his phrase “Breaking the Rules Without Breaking the Law,” and he runs a free online newsletter of the same name. His speaks on a variety of Internet marketing topics, including list building, generating website traffic, creating products to market, pinpointing target audiences and all aspects of using video technology in marketing.

With over two decades of involvement in Internet marketing, Koenigs has been employed by 3M, General Mills, Domino’s Pizza and Mazda Motors. He has also worked on marketing campaigns for celebrities including Deepak Chopra, Debbie Ford, Paula Abdul and Tony Robbins. To date, he has launched more than 300 websites and created several dozen products. Koenigs is credited with the popularity of video as an Internet marketing tool. In fact, he is said to have invented the concept of the Internet infomercial itself with his Infomercial Toolkit course, ebook and webinars.

Today, Koenigs remains as CEO of Global Traffic Network, Traffic Geyser’s parent company, taking part in marketing the program as well as giving related trainings. His most recent online training course, Main Street Marketing Machines 2, reported full registration within weeks of its May 2010 launch. Koenigs is also involved in many other websites and marketing product launches, though his name is often not mentioned conspicuously, including MrBz.com, PushButtonVideoMarketing.com, Mixiv.com, BreakthroughVideo.com and EverythingYouShouldKnow.com.

Koenigs’ wife, Vivian Glyck, is an entrepreneur and marketer in her own right. She started and continues to run Glyck Communications. She has worked as a marketing consultant for a variety of organizations and people and founded the nonprofit Just Like My Child in 2006.

Koenigs lives in San Diego, California, where he surfs and plays the digideroo when he is not working.
